IRVINE, Calif.--Bakersfield split a pair of matches on opening day of the 2014 Sand Volleyball season Saturday.

The 'Runners defeated Irvine Valley College 5-0. Winning for CSUB were Molly O'Hagan (Jr. Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) and Debora Araujo (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) at No. 1, Mariah Alvidrez (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) and Shayna Guitare (Sr., Torrance, Calif., Pierce College) at No. 2, Julia Bowen (Sr. Ottawa, Ontario, Wilfrid Laurier Univ.) and Hazel Perrins (So., Stavanger, Norway, Louisiana-Monroe) at No. 3, Sydney Haynes (Fr. Vancouver, Wash., Evergreen HS) and Lisa Bartsch (Sr., Wuppertal, Germany, Augusta State).at No. 4 and Sara LIttle (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) and Danika Youngblood (Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Western Nebraska C.C.) in the No. 5 slot.

The Roadrunners dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 6 UCLA in match two of the day.   Bakersfield got wins at No. 2 from Alvidrez and Guitare and No. 5 from Little and Youngblood. The match was tied 2-2 heading into the No. 4 match betweeen UCLA's Skylar Dykstra and Jennie Frager and CSUB's Haynes and Bartsch where the Bruin duo swept the 'Runner pair 2-0 for the 3-2 victory.

The 'Runners return to the courts Thursday at No. 2 USC at 4 p.m.
