LOS ANGELES, Calif.--No. 1 USC defeated Bakersfield 22-7 in the MPSF Water Polo opener for the Roadrunners.
The Women of Troy (14-0) got off to a hot start, leading 9-2 after the first quarter and 14-2 at halftime. Kristen Jensen (Fr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Los Osos HS) led the 'Runners with four goals. Jensen drew two exclusions one five-meter. Jensen scored two of her goals on five-meter penalty shots. Katie Benson (Fr., La Crescenta, Calif., Crescenta Valley HS) had two goals. Janelle Shelby (Jr., San Diego, Calif., Grossmont HS) had four steals.
"Offensively we did some great things," said Bakersfield head coach Jason Gall. "Defensively, we still need to get better, but I think we can build on some of the things we were able to accomplish today."
The Roadrunners travel to the Arizona State Tournament Mar. 14-16. Highlighting the five-match tournament is a Saturday conference dual against No. 5 Arizona State.
