Outland Named WBCA All-American

ATLANTA, Ga.--Bakersfield's Tyonna Outland (R-Jr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) has been named honorable mention All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Outland is one of four members of the WBCA's Region 7 team Mar. 25. Outland was selected first team All-Conference and was named to the league's All-Defensive team Mar. 10. Outland was second in the league in scoring (20.7), fifth in minutes played (34.8), seventh in offensive rebounds (93), eighth in free throw shooting (77.2%, ninth in steals (52), 12th in rebounding (6.3).

In conference only games, Outland finished second in scoring (22.4), third in steals (1.5), seventh in offensive rebounding (3.06), eighth in field goal shooting (47.7%), ninth in minutes played (34.12), 10th in free throw shooting (75.5%), 12th in rebounding (6.7).

Outland was selected CollegeSportsMadness WAC Player of the Year and CollegeSportsMadness first team All-Conference Mar. 11. The U.S. Basketball Writers Association selected Outland as its Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Feb. 23. As the WAC Player of the Week, Outland was nominated for the weekly award, which was chosen by Mel Greenberg, the USBWA coordinator for women's basketball, from a list of Division I conference players of the week.
