CHULA VISTA, Calif.--The Bakersfield sand volleyball team concluded its stay at the USAV Collegiate Challenge Sunday.

he Bakersfield sand volleyball team won one of three duals at the USAV Collegiate Beach Challenge on Saturday.

The Roadrunners opened the day with a 4-1 victory over Cal State Northridge. Molly O'Hagan (Jr., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) and Debora Araujo (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) at No. 1, Mariah Alvidrez (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) and Shayna Guitare (Sr., Torrance, Calif., Pierce College) at No. 2, Sara Little (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) and Lisa Bartsch (Sr., Wuppertal, Germany, Augusta State) at No. 4, and Sydney Haynes (Fr., Vancouver, Wash., Evergreen HS) and Danika Youngblood (Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Western Nebraska C.C.) were victorious for the 'Runners.

Bakersfield lost 3-2 to Grand Canyon in the middle dual. Guitare and Alvidrez (No. 2) and Haynes and Youngblood (No. 5) were the Roadrunner winners. CSUB lost 4-1 to No. 5 Hawai'i in the final dual. Haynes and Youngblood moved to No. 4 against the Rainbow Warriors and earned a 2-1 victory.

Upon the conclusion of the final dual, the pairs tournament portion of the Challenge began. Unfortunately for the Roadrunners, the five duos entered in the first round all lost. O'Hagan and Araujo received the No. 4 seed and Alvidrez and Guitare got the No. 7 seed and both teams received first round byes.

Both teams were upset in the round of 16. O'Hagan and Araujo lost in three sets to a team from Pepperdine. Alvidrez and Guitare lost in straight sets to a team from Pepperdine as well.

Bakersfield opens the Roadrunner Sand Volleyball Complex Mar. 26 when the 'Runners host Oregon in a 12 p.m. dual.
