CSUB Heads To WAC Indoor Track Championships

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Bakersfield women's track and field team will travel to Moscow, Idaho to compete in the WAC Indoor Championships. The meet will take place from Wednesday the 26th until Friday the 28th and the 'Runners will be competing in the championships for the first time as the athletic program is in its inagural season in the WAC.

"We're taking a small squad to the WAC Championships," said Bakersfield's Director of Track and Field, Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "We are looking for some individual and relay successes that we can build on for the future."

Bakersfield will be represented by nine student-athletes who will participate in a range of track and field events. The 'Runners will also take part in both relays at the WAC Championships: the 4 x 400m and the distance medley relays.

Leading the 'Runners around the track will be a trio of veteran student-athletes: Alyssa Page (Jr., Santa Rosa, Calif., Montgomery HS), Megan Thompson (RJr., Fellows, Calif., Taft Union HS), and Erica Hawkins (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Shafter HS). Page will compete on the relay teams and will take part in the 200m and 400m sprints. Thompson will also compete in the relays and race in the 800m while Hawkins will be the lone Roadrunner in the pentathlon and the high jump.

Bakersfield will also be well-represented by a group of young Roadrunners. Sophomore Audrena Harlan (Antioch, Calif., Dozier-Libbey Medical HS) will lead the 'Runners in the long and triple jumps. Redshirt freshman Marina Emhoff (Bakersfield, Calif., North HS) will join Page in the relays as well as the 200m and 400m sprints. Ariana Mariscal (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS) will run alongside Thompson in the 800m race and take part in the relays.

Gabby Giuliano (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) will represent Bakersfield in the pole vaulting competition and Tori Blackmon (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) will race in the mile. Freshman distance runner, LaShya Morgan (Bakersfield, Calif., Ridgeview HS), will compete in the 3000m and take a leg in the distance medley relay.

The pentathlon will kick off the meet on Wednesday afternoon and the 'Runners will compete in various track and field events on Thursday and Friday as well.
