DAVIS, Calif.--The Bakersfield water polo team split a pair of matches at the UC Davis Tournament Saturday.
No. 12 San Jose State defeated Bakersfield 10-7 in the Saturday opener. Freshman Kristen Jensen (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Los Osos HS) scored four goals. Janelle Shelby (Jr., San Diego, Calif., Grossmont HS) made three steals, drew two ejections, had two assists, and scored one goal. Courtney Wahlstrom (Fr., Palm Desert, Calif., Palm Desert HS) made 15 saves.
In the nightcap, Bakersfield defeated Sonoma State 7-3. Paige Tsuruda (Sr., Honolulu, Hawai'i, Word of Life Academy) and Tancy Aldridge (Fr., Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo HS) each scored two goals to lead the 'Runners. Wahlstrom made a season high 18 saves. Her save total is the fourth most in school history.
"We kept the score a little more managable than the last time we played San Jose," said Bakersfield head coach Jason Gall. "We still need to convert our opportunities and we still stop giving up easy goals."
