BAKERSFIELD, Calif.,- After a program-defining win Sunday night at Cal, the CSUB Roadrunners look to continue to build on that momentum Wednesday afternoon as they look for their third straight win when they host the University of LaVerne in a special New Year's Eve matinee that tips off at 2 P.M. at the Icardo Center.
The Roadrunners won their second straight Sunday with a 55-52 upset at Cal, earning the program's first win over a Pac-12 school and sending the Bears to their first loss of the season to a team outside of the Top 25. Aly Ahmed led the 'Runners with 19 points and 10 rebounds, recording his third double-double of the season and earning Western Athletic Conference player of the week honors for his efforts as well.
CSUB's defense set the tone in that game as it has all season, the Roadrunners enter Wednesday's contest against LaVerne as the best defensive team in the WAC allowing a league-low 61.4 ppg. They are also holding opponents to a conference-best 39.1% shooting from the field which also ranks 66th in the NCAA.
LaVerne enters at 3-4 with one more game to play Tuesday evening before heading to Bakersfield for Wednesday afternoon's contest. The Leopards lost 68-52 to St. Joseph's on Monday in Orange, Calif.
The Leopards are led by Hakim Arnold and his 13 ppg. The sophomore guard is also shooting over 57% from the field.
