BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield (9-3) women's basketball team hosts LIU Brooklyn Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
This is the first meeting between CSU Bakersfield and LIU Brooklyn in women's basketball. The Blackbirds squandered an 18-point first half lead at Long Beach State Sunday afternoon and lost 71-63 to the 49ers. LIU Brooklyn is now 3-7 on the season.
The Blackbirds are led by Sophie Bhasin who is averaging 13.2 points per game. Jolanna Ford is second on the team in scoring (8.5) while Letava Whippy is third in scoring (8.1) and leads the team in rebounding (8.2).
CSU Bakersfield's Alyssa Shannon has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 22 through Dec. 28.
Shannon, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Stockdale HS), helped lead the hometown Roadrunners to a 78-69 win over visiting Hawai'i. She totaled 16 points, going eight for eight from the free throw line, and dished out eight assists, made three steals and grabbed three rebounds. The 5-2 guard also tallied her first career block against the Rainbow Wahine.
College Sports Madness also awarded its WAC Player of the Week honors to Shannon for her Hawai'i peformance.
