Roadrunners Host A Pair Of Big West Foes This Week

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield women's basketball team (4-1) hosts a pair of Big West Conference foes this week when the Roadrunners take on UC Irvine and UC Riverside.

CSUB welcomes UC Irvine to the Icardo Center Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. tip. The game will be featured on the WAC Digital Network. CSU Bakersfield and UC Irvine begin a home-and-home series Wednesday night. The Roadrunners travel to Irvine Dec. 16. CSUB leads the all-time series 7-2 after the Anteaters defeated the 'Runners 66-52 in the last meeting between the two schools Dec. 28, 2012. 

UC Irvine has lost five in a row after dropping a pair of games at the Loyola Marymount Tournament over Thanksgiving weekend. UCI is 1-6 entering this week's action.Mokun Fajemisin is the Anteaters' leading scorer at 10.6 points per game. Methlyn Onogomuho is the team leader in rebounding (7.0) and is second in scoring (8.6).

Bakersfield hosts UC Riverside Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. UC Riverside took a 6-2 all-time series lead when the Highlanders defeated CSU Bakersfield 85-66 last season in Riverside.

UC Riverside is 5-0 entering play this week. The Highlanders are at Fresno State Thursday night before heading to Bakersfield. UCR is off to their best start since the 1990-91 season. Brittany Crain scored 31 points in the championship game of last weekend's New Mexico Tournament. Crain scored 66 points in the two tournament games and was named Tournament MVP. Crain is averaging 29.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game to pace the Highlanders.

Dajy Vines was named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 24 through Nov. 30. Vines, a senior from Oxnard, Calif. (Santa Clara HS), scored a career-high 27 points to lead Bakersfield past Fresno Pacific on Wednesday before putting up 18 points in a 20-point win over Fresno State on Sunday. Vines scored 17 of her 27 points against Fresno Pacific in the first half and finished the game with five three-pointers to go with eight rebounds, four steals and two assists. Against Fresno State, she was seven-of-10 from the field in only 17 minutes of action, connecting for three baskets from three-point land.
