BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team heads to Omaha and No. 12/15 Nebraska this week.
The Roadrunners (6-1) take on the Mavericks Thursday with the tip set for 7 p.m. (CST). CSU Bakersfield and Omaha are playing for the second time after the Roadrunners defeated the Mavericks 69-65 Nov. 30, 2013 in Bakersfield.
The Mavericks are 4-4 after Felicia Anderson hit a three-pointer at the buzzer on Sunday against Milwaukee for a 64-61 victory. Mikaela Shaw is averaging a double-double (14.1 ppg and 10.1 rpg) to lead Omaha. Brianna Bogard is second on the team in scoring at 11.1 ppg). The teams have one common opponent in Air Force. CSUB defeated the Falcons 96-56 while the Mavs lost 65-57 to Air Force.
CSUB faces the Huskers Saturday at 2 p.m. (CST). This will be the third time that CSU Bakersfield and Nebraska are playing women's basketball against each other. The Huskers lead the all-time series 2-0. The game will be televised on BTN Plus.
Nebraska begins the week ranked 12th in the AP Top 25 and 15th in the USA Today/WBCA Top 25 poll. The Huskers defeated No. 13/12 Duke last week to improve to 7-0 before dropping a 53-51 decision to Alabama on Saturday. Three Nebraska players average double-digit points per game, led by Rachel Theriot who is going for 17.9 points per game. When the Roadrunners take to the court against Nebraska, CSU Bakersfield will be looking for its first victory against a ranked opponent at the Division I level. This will be the eighth time that CSU Bakersfield will be playing a ranked opponent at the D-1 level.
CSU Bakersfield reached No. 29 in the official NCAA RPI on Dec. 9. The No. 29 ranking is the highest for CSUB at the Division I level.
