BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- The Roadrunner women's swimming and diving team cruised to a 181-116 victory over the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds on Saturday. Delise Batiza (Sr., San Ramon, Calif., Oregon State) guided the Roadrunner women with three victories at the Hillman Aquatics Complex.
“We swam some off events which was kind of a risk,” said Chris Hansen, Bakersfield's Director of Swimming. “Delise was a stud again. Her 400 IM was fantastic and she won the 200 back for a total of three events today. Paola and Michaela were equally as impressive.” Batiza won the 400 IM (4:35.68), the 1000 free (10:33.11), and the 200 back (2:06.69). Paola Hernandez (So., Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo HS) guided the 'Runners to a win in the 400 medley relay and picked up a victory in the 100 back (58.70). Michaela Paige (Jr., Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo HS) won the 100 fly with a time of 58.21 and the 200 free in 1:54.37.
Melissa Gore (So., Taft, Calif., Taft Union HS) showed up big for Bakersfield, taking victories in both boards for the first time this season. Gore won the 1-meter with a score of 228.50 and the 3-meter with 234.90 points on her way to picking up 18 points for the 'Runners in the dual. “Melissa Gore won both boards which is huge for her,” said Hansen. “She's coming off an injury and had knee surgery at the beginning of the summer, so to see her bounce back so quickly really excites us for conference for her.”
Lauren Kaufman (Sr., Renton, Wash., TCU) and Lucy Sanderson (So., London, England, Kelley College) each picked up victories for Bakersfield as well. Kaufman won the 50 free in a time of 24.38 while Sanderson finished first in the 200 fly (2:12.15).
The 'Runners will head to Pocatello, Idaho next week, Saturday, Nov. 8, to compete in a tri-dual with WAC foes Idaho and Seattle U. For full results from Saturday's dual, open the attached link.
