'Runners Head To Arizona & Arizona State This Week

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield women's basketball team travels to the University of Arizona and Arizona State for a pair of games this week.

The trip begins Monday night in Tucson when the Roadrunners face the Wildcats. The game begins at 7 p.m. (MST) with a video available online at Pac-12.com. Monday's game will serve as the season opener for the Wildcats. Arizona went 5-25 last season. The Wildcats return three starters, led by Candice Warthen who averaged 11.1 points per game a year ago. Arizona defeated Bakersfield 71-50 on Nov. 9, 2012 in the only previous meeting between the two schools in women's basketball.

Bakersfield will then travel to Arizona State for Wednesday contest that is set for 6:30 p.m. (MST). This will be the first meeting between Bakersfield and Arizona State in women's basketball. The Sun Devils opened the 2014-15 season with a 81-67 victory over Middle Tennessee Friday night. Sophie Brunner scored a career-high 20 points to go along
with a game-high 12 rebounds.Katie Hempen and Elisha Davis added 14 points each for the Sun Devils. Arizona State is coming off a 2013-14 season in which the Sun Devils went 23-10 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Tyonna Outland (R-Sr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) scored 28 points to lead Bakersfield past Air Force 96-56 in the season opening women's basketball game for both schools Friday night in the Icardo Center.Outland was 10-of-17 from the floor to move past Kelley Tarver (1,481, 2005-10) into third in career scoring at Bakersfield. The 5-9 forward added seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

Brooklynn Hinkens (Sr., Lake Tapps, Wash., Auburn-Riverside HS) recorded a career high 21 points. Batabe Zempare (Jr., Accra, Ghana, Scottsdale Chapparal HS) had 10 points and nine rebounds. The 6-2 forward also added four steals. Erika Williams (R-So., Fresno, Calif., Diamond Ranch HS) also had 10 points.
