Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Missouri-Kansas City used a balanced offensive attack as the Kangaroos defeated Bakersfield 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 13-25, 25-16) in Western Athletic Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon.
UMKC (13-3, 2-0 WAC) had six players with at least six kills with Emma Hagedorn and Melissa Hartsel each going for nine. Five 'Roos had 10 or more digs. Kansas City setter Kaylyn Brandt recorded a double-double of 25 assist and 10 digs.
CSUB (6-11, 2-2 WAC) setter Luiza Martins (Jr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Western Nebraska CC) tallied her fifth double-double of the year with 39 assists and 11 digs. Bakersfield libero Mariah Alvidrez (R-Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) recorded a match high 28 digs.
Danika Youngblood (Sr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Western Nebraska CC) led all players with 17 kills. Molly O'Hagan (Sr., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) and Kelsee Sawyer (Jr., Temecula, Calif. Great Oak HS) both posted 11 kills.
Both teams hit under .200, but the Kangaroos height at the net proved to be the difference. UMKC had 15 team blocks, compared to six for CSUB.
The Roadrunners host Grand Canyon next Saturday at 1 p.m. The Bakersfield program will honor the 1989 CSUB team which won the Division II National Championship throughout the day.
