SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--Bakersfield lost a pair of games to nationally ranked opponents on the final day of the UC Santa Barbara Invitational Sunday.
Bakersfield lost to No. 10 Long Beach State 8-4 to begin play on day two for the Roadrunners at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational. Niki De Leon (So., Montebello, Calif., Montebello HS) scored twice for CSUB. Janelle Shelby (Jr., San Diego, Calif., Grossmont HS) and Bridgette Souza (R-Jr., La Jolla, Calif., Sonoma State) had the other 'Runner goals.
No. 14 UC San Diego defeated Bakersfield 14-8 in the nightcap. Kristen Jensen (Fr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Los Osos HS) and Souza paced the 'Runners with two goals each. Four other players each scored for the 'Runners.
"I'm really happy with the heart and desire this group played with this weekend, especially today," said Bakersfield head coach Jason Gall. "We only had 10 athletes suited up today, which meant most of our starters played without subs. We have made huge strides in our defensive approach."
The Roadrunners are at the Cal Baptist Mini next Saturday in Riverside.
