LOS ANGELES, Calif.--The Bakersfield water polo team split a pair of matches on the final day of the UCLA Invitational Sunday.
No. 3 UCLA defeated Bakersfield 14-3 in the morning session. Nicola Barrett (So., Cape Town, South Africa, Rustenberg HS) scored two of the three Bakersfield goals. Niki De Leon (So., Montebello, Calif., Montebello HS) posted the other 'Runner goal. Freshman Courtney Wahlstrom (Palm Desert, Calif., Palm Desert HS) made 12 saves.
Bakersfield defeated Concordia-Irvine 17-7 in the tournamnet finale. De Leon led the 'Runners with five goals. Barrett and freshman Kristen Jensen (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Los Osos HS) each tallied four goals Barrett also charted four assists. De Leon had three assists and three steals.
"We made some nice adjustments from yesterday," said Bakersfield head coach Jason Gall. "We still need to get things going offensively but I'm pleased with the progress that we made this weekend but we still have a lot of work to do before our conference games."
Bakersfield is at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational next weekend for four games.
