Bakersfield Adds Forward Deng Deng

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield men's basketball head coach Rod Barnes has announced the addition of 6'6” forward Deng Deng to the Roadrunners squad. Deng, a transfer from Long Beach State, will have three years of eligibility remaining but will sit out the 2013-14 season to comply with NCAA transfer rules.

“We are pleased that Deng Deng has decided to join our family, Barnes said. “Next year will give him a chance to develop both on and off the court.”

The West Valley, Utah native appeared in 32 games averaging 5.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game last season as a freshman for Long Beach State. Scored in double figures in 11 games including a team and season-high 18 points in a 78-69 win over Cal State Northridge where he also netted a career-high five 3-pointers on 5-12 shooting from the field. He also just missed his first collegiate double-double at Ohio State with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Deng's prep career included three letter-winning years at Granger High School in West Valley, UT where he was named second-team all-state by the Salt Lake Tribune and second-team all-region as a junior after averaging 17 points, six rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while also shooting 48 percent from 3-point range.

“Deng is an exceptional shooter with a great feel for the game and he is very competitive,” Barnes said. “He is long and athletic and his versatility fits our style of play.”

Deng joins Antonio Jenifer and former AAU teammate Tyrell Corbin as the third student-athlete to commit to the Roadrunners this offseason.
