CSUB libero Mariah Alvidrez (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty High School) was the latest Roadrunner student-athlete to be honored by the Bakersfield Jockey Club in a luncheon Monday at Hodel's Restaurant.
Alvidrez was originally selected for this honor in the fall following a tremendous season as a libero for CSUB volleyball where she led the team with 380 digs on the season. Her class schedule prevented her from receiving the honor until the spring, but fittingly enough, Alvidrez has also earned honors on the sand volleyball court where she and her teammate Shayna Guitare, lead the Roadrunners in victories in what is the inaugural season of sand volleyball at CSUB with a 9-7 record.
Alvidrez is an exercise science major at CSUB and was a multi-sport athlete in high school competing in volleyball, soccer and softball. She originally played soccer at Fresno Pacific before a knee injury led her back to volleyball and a spot on the squad back in her hometown of Bakersfield.
The Bakersfield Jockey Club has been honoring local prep and college athletes for 49 years. Alvidrez joins CSUB student-athletes Kory Kindle (men's soccer), Sam Pena (women's soccer), Dan Wickenshimer (men's swimming), Tyonna Outland (women's basketball), Javonte Maynor (men's basketball), Tyler Shryock (baseball) and her teammate Debora Araujo (volleyball) that have been honored this season.
