CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Sara Nielson (La Quinta, Calif., Riverside CC) clocked a personal-best time and moved up to No. 10 in the 400 hurdles in the all-time CSU Bakersfield women's track and field record book by recording a time of 65.23 seconds at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.
Nielson previously was ranked No. 16 with a time of 66:10 that she recorded in 2011. She placed 18th in the event in a meet featuring a large field including Division I, II and III teams like UCLA, Pepperdine, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, Grand Canyon and Southern Utah to name a few.
Also posting a top finish for the Roadrunner women was freshman Jamara Scott (Bakersfield, Calif., Golden Valley HS), who placed 10th in the long jump after leaping 17 feet.
Leading the way for the CSUB men's track and field team was junior thrower Gabe Holland (Anchoarge, Alaska, Univ. of Alaska), who took 10th in the hammer with a toss of 168-09 and 13th in the discus with a 153-07 mark. CSUB sophomore Bryan Wilmert (Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) placed 14th in the shot put (45-04.5) and took 14th in the hammer (162-02).
Sophomore Derek Stotler (Vista, Calif., Buena Rancho Vista HS) took 12th in the 3,000 steeplechase by clocking a 9:53.32.
"We had several personal-best marks today," said CSUB Director of Track and Field Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "Some struggled, but overall we made some good steps. Sara did a great job in the 400 hurdles."

The Roadrunners will be back in action on Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa.
