PALO ALTO, Calif.--No. 2 Stanford defeated CSU Bakersfield 163 in the MPSF Water Polo opener for both schools Saturday.
Shannon McKenzie (R-Sr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) scored twice while Sam Shead (Sr., Johannesburg, South Africa (Rand Park HS) had the other goal for CSUB. Shead and Niki De Leon (Fr., Montebello, Calif., Montebello HS) both drew two ejections.
"Playing in our MPSF game on the road against Stanford is no easy way to open conference play," I thought we came ready to play and the first quarter showed that. We know that we get better by playing these types of games as so long as we continue to learn from they, and we will keep improving."
CSUB hosts the first of two Roadrunner Invitational next weekend. Included in the four-game set is the first MPSF home match against No. 4 Arizona State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
