SANTA MARIA, Calif. — Malea Miller (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif.,
Bakersfield College) posted a 5-over 77 to lead the CSU Bakersfield women's golf team in a 308-317 loss to Cal Poly at Santa Maria Country Club on Saturday.
In the opening action of the spring portion of the Roadrunners' schedule, Jordanne Barr (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) and Lauren Holbrook (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) followed behind Miller and both carded 78s. Michelle Martel (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) and Micah Lopez (So., Bakersfield, Calif., East Bakersfield HS) both shot 84s to round out the top five for CSUB.
"The team struggled at times today, but through it and came back to score well," said CSUB head women's golf coach Tony Bernardin. "This was a great learning experience for our team."
Taylor Yoshitake carded an even-72 to lead Cal Poly while Madison Hirsh tied Miller for second with a 77.
The Roadrunners will return to action on March 2-3 at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz., at Oak Creek Golf Course.
