Box Score

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Redshirt junior Tyonna Outland (Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) became the eighth Bakersfield women's basketball player to score at least 1,000 points in her career as the Roadrunners (4-6) defeated Houston Baptist (3-6) 81-61 Thursday night.

Outland surpassed the 1,000-point plateau at the 5:32 mark of the first half and finished the night by scoring 28 points, one off of her career high. Outland tied her career high with 10 field goals (10-of-19), grabbed four rebounds, and dished out three assists.

Three other Bakersfield players scored in double figures led by Melissa Sweat (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Southern Oregon) who had 15. Brooklynn Hinkens (Jr., Lake Tapps, Wash., Auburn-Riverside HS) scored 13 while Alyssa Shannon (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) posted career highs with 11 points and eight assists. Shannon, Bakersfield's point guard, did not commit a turnover. Batabe Zempare (So., Accra, Ghana, Scottsdale Chapparal HS) grabbed a game high 16 rebounds.

Erin McGarrachan led the Huskies with 17 points. Shanice Steenhold scored 14 points and had 14 rebounds while Tayler Jefferson scored 11. The 'Runners held Houston Baptist to under 40-percent shooting for the night (28-of-71, 39.4%) and scored 19 points off of 20 Huskies' turnovers.

"I thought the team played really hard, they played smart and they played together. It was a team win," said Bakersfield head coach Greg McCall. "Hopefully we can get another win against Fresno Pacific. That will be another win under our belt before we go into conference. We have two more games and we just want to get ourselves fine tuned and well prepared. It's our first year in the conference and we really just want to go in strong and ready to go."

Bakersfield resumes action after the Christmas break by hosting Fresno Pacific Dec. 30 in the Icardo Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
