Box Score AFA, Colo.--Air Force defeated Bakersfield 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference men's soccer action Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons (2-9-5, 2-1-5 WAC) got on the board first when Connor Dunbaker broke the seal in the 23rd minute. Gus Jensen's 25-yarder in the 68th minute proved to be the gamewinning goal for AFA. Joe Masumiya (R-Jr., Lakewood, Calif., Lakewood HS) connected on a penalty kick in the 71st minute for the lone 'Runner tally.
Bakersfield (7-8-2, 5-3-1 WAC) had a chance to tie with 23 seconds to go, but David Velasquez's (R-Jr., Los Angles, Calif., Locke HS) shot was blocked. The Falcons outshot the 'Runners 18-12 as Bakersfield goalie Anthony Perez (R-So., Fontana, Calif., Bloomington HS) made a season high 10 saves.
"We didn't match the intensity of Air Force unitl the second half," said 'Runner head coach Simon Tobin. "We ended up chasing a game because of a tepid first half performance. Air Force always plays inspired on their home field and our ball quality needed to be complemented with a greater will to defend."
The Roadrunners conclude the regular season Saturday night when Bakersfield hosts UNLV at 7 p.m. on the Main Soccer Field.
