Box Score EDINBURG, Texas--The Bakersfield volleyball clinched second place in the Western Athletic Conference with a 3-0 sweep of Texas-Pan American Wednesday night. The win gives the 'Runners a first round by in next week's WAC Tournament.
The victory was the 20th of the season for the Roadrunners (20-11, 12-4 WAC), the most for the program at the Division I level. Bakersfield won all three two sets by an indentical 25-20 score against the Broncs (13-20, 2-14 WAC).
Molly O'Hagan (Jr., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) led the way with 16 kills. Fernanda Gonçalves (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) recorded her league leading 14th double-double of the year as she posted 39 assists and 11 digs. Debora Araujo (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) tallied her 12th double-double of the season (the second most in the WAC) as she had 14 kills and 12 digs.
"Tonight was a great end to our regular season," said Bakersfield head coach Jolene Shepardson. "I am proud of their perserverance through a long road trip at the end of the academic semester and earning the second seed and the first round by in the WAC Tournament."
The WAC Tournament for Bakersfield will begin next Tuesday night (Nov. 26) at Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Ariz. The Roadrunners will face the winner of the 3-6 matchup at 5 p.m. (MST).
