STOCKTON, Calif.--Pacific handed Bakersfield its first women's swimming dual loss Saturday as the Tigers defeated the Roadrunners 143-119.
Kelsey Lange (So., San Jose, Saint Teresa HS) earned first place in the 100 free with a time of :52.38. She was third in the 200 free (1:54.18).
Delise Batiza (Jr. San Ramon, Calif., Oregon State) won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:07.47. She finished second in the 1000 free (10:28.99).
The 400 free relay of Lauren Kaufman (Jr., Renton, Wash., TCU), Lange, Jacelyn Youngerman (Jr., Cypress, Calif., Cypress College), and Paige won the race by recording a time of 3:29.15.
Michaela Paige (So, Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo HS) placed second in the 200 free (1:52.11) and the 500 free (5:06.34). Youngerman was second in the 50 free (:24.00) and the 100 free (:52.61). Paola Hernandez (Fr., Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo HS) was second in the 100 back (:57.65), and second in the 200 back (2:05.36), and second in the 200 IM (2:09.26).
Nicolette Goncalves (So., Mississauga, Ontario, Erindale Secondary School) came home second in the 100 butterly (:58.50). Cailtyn Lozano (So., Granada Hills, Calif., Bishop Alemany HS) finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:10.23). Dylana Milobar (Fr. Kamloops, B.C., Valleyview Secondary School) was second in the 200 breast (2:28.17).
"The women really raced hard and tried to win the meet for the beginning, but Pacific was just to strong for us," said Bakersfield director of swimming and diving Chris Hansen. "However, some great things happened. Delise Batiza, Michaela Paige, Lauren Kaufrman, Paola Hernandez and Kelsey Lange continued to show this team what the definition of racing is! Nicolette Goncalves showed us that she is going to a dominate player to this team today! I guarantee we see her swim faster faster as the season goes on. The 400 free relay of Lauren , Jacelyn Youngerman, Kelsey and Michaela was a huge swim!"
Bakersfield is at Fresno Pacific next Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
