BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield shot a season high 51% from the field, but fell 77-68 to Fresno State Thursday night.
The Roadrunners were 26-of-51 from the field, 14-of-25 (56%) in the second half. The Bulldogs led 34-29 and pushed to the lead to seven early on in the second half. CSUB closed to within one, 45-44 with 12:47 to go, forcing Fresno State to switch from a man-to-man defense to zone.
The Roadrunners turned the ball over four time in a sequence of seven possessions, making one shot in the other three as the Bulldogs stretched the lead to 10 with 5:52 to go. CSUB cut the lead to five (64-59) with just over four to play. Fresno State rallied, scoring the next four on the way to the victory.
Janae Coffee (R-So., Fresno, Calif., Long Beach State) led CSUB with 21 points, nine rebounds, and six blocks. Ciarra Ford (Sr., Long Beach, Calif., Mt. Sac College) posted a season high 17 points. Redshirt sophomore Dajy Vines (Oxnard, Calif., Santa Clara HS) also recorded a season high in points with 12.
Taylor Thompson scored 23 points to pace Fresno State (8-5). Thompson also dished out eight assists and grabbed six rebounds. Ki-Ki Moore tallied 21 points while Rosie Moult had 15. CSUB outrebounded the Bulldogs 30-24, but Fresno State went to the free throw line 17 more times than the Roadrunners (26-9) and made 22 attempts from the charity stripe.
The Roadrunners (2-15) travel to Nevada Saturday for a 4 p.m. start.
