LA JOLLA, Calif.--Mitchell Huxhold (So.
Escondido, Calif., San Pasqual HS) and Alex Daneke (R-Sr., Lodi, Calif., UC Davis) combined to win four events as CSU Bakersfield split a men's swimming tri-dual at UC San Diego Saturday.
Huxhold doubled up in the 500 (4:38.67) and 1000 (9:34.69) freestyles. Daneke was victorious in the 100 (:52.24)and 200 (1:53.18) backstrokes.
Gabriel Bertrand (So.
Tibro, Sweden, Nykopingssimg Gymnasium) earned the victory in the 200 free (1:41.51). He was second in the 500 free (4:40.69).
Daneke led off the 200 medley relay that finished third (1:34.51) and anchored the 400 free relay (3:07.09) that placed second.
The Roadrunners defeated Missouri S&T 186-102 before losing 163-137 to the host Tritons.
"We should have defeated UCSD, I keep saying we are a young team and they need to step up," said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen. "It was real close but the breast and IM events continue to hurt us. Our younger guys need to see how Alex, Mitch Wurm, and Dan Wickensheimer handle the pressure and learn from them. Gabriel, Mitchell, and Alex had a great meet all winning individual events."
The Roadrunners are off until Jan. 26 when CSUB travels to Cal Baptist for a 12 p.m. dual.
