For the second straight night, the
CSU Bakersfield volleyball team defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore, this time posting with a 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-14, 25-16) victory over the Hawks on Friday night
in the Roadrunner Classic at the Icardo Center.
CSUB, who topped UMES 3-1 on Thursday
night to open up the Roadrunner Classic, improved to 5-7 on the season while
the Hawks dropped to 14-4. Junoir outside hitter Debora Araujo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western
Nebraska C.C.) led the way for the 'Runners with 17 kills, six digs, three

The 'Runners will look to go
undefeated in the Roadrunner Classic when they take on Utah Valley (7-5), which beat
UMES 3-0 earlier on Friday, on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Icardo Center.
"We are very fortunate to have won
two games from UMES because they are a very talented team," said CSUB head
coach Jolene Shepardson. "I like how we handled the pressure they put on us
early and got more aggressive with our serving and blocking games. We are now
looking forward to a great match with Utah Valley on Saturday night."
After the 'Runners pulled out a
close win in the second set, they came out on fire in the third, taking an 8-1
and never looking back. CSUB jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the final set as well
on its way to sealing its third straight victory.
Setter Fernanda Gonçalves (Jr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil,
Western Nebraska C.C.) had another impressive night orchestrating the offense
with 41 assists, five kills, two aces, two blocks and one dig. Outside hitter
Shayna Guitare (Jr., Torrance, Calif., Los Angeles Pierce College) added nine
kills for CSUB, while middle blocker Molly O'Hagan (So., Tonganoxie, Kan.,
