SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The CSU Bakersfield softball team's final game of the San Diego Classic II against San Diego State has been cancelled by rain. All of the games scheduled for the tournament on Sunday were washed out.
All of Saturday's games at the tournament, including CSUB's matchups with Harvard and Purdue, were also cancelled. The 'Runners (6-17) did get to play two games on Friday before the rain came and fell to Quinnipiac 3-1 and Vaparaiso 10-2.
The 'Runners now return to Bakersfield to prepare to host No. 3 University of Washington (27-1) in a doubleheader on Monday at Roadrunner Softball Complex. The first game will begin at noon, with the second to follow. The Huskies' No. 3 ranking is from the latest NCAA Division I poll, which came out on March 13.
CSUB faced Washington for the first time in the program's history in 2011 when they Huskies came to Bakersfield for a doubleheader on March 27 and won both games (8-0; 9-0).
The Huskies are led by ace Kaitlin Inglesby, who has a 14-0 record, a 1.16 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 90.1 innings pitched.
The 'Runners are led by hot-hitting outfielders Laura King (R-Jr., Camarillo, Calif., UNLV), who has a team-high batting average of .388, and Karissa Veiga (So., Hemet, Calif., Hemet HS), who is batting .342 and leads the team with 13 runs scored.
Admission is free for all spectators for Monday's doubleheader against Washington.
