CSUB Earns 1st Series Win vs. CSUN in Program History

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - For the first time in program history, the Cal State Bakersfield softball team earned a Conference series win against the CSUN Matadors. Previously 0-10 all-time in series against CSUN, Bakersfield won the first two games of this weekend's Big West series at the Roadrunner Softball Complex, ultimately winning the three-game set 2-1.

Offense was a sought-after commodity this weekend as both pitching staffs put on a great showing. Cal State Bakersfield looked to Cedes Saldana in the circle as the freshman ace was the winning pitcher in both victories for the `Runners. The native of Wasco, Calif. posted a 1.11 ERA across 12.2 innings of work and an appearance in all three contests. Saldana got some help this weekend from fellow freshman Amber Estrada, made two appearances and allowed just one run across 7.1 innings pitched.

Bakersfield came out flat in the series finale Saturday afternoon, giving up 4 runs in each of the first two innings to the Matadors. Despite the stumble out of the gate, the resilient `Runners battled all the way to the final pitch. Down 8-5 in the bottom of the seventh, CSUB had the tying run at the plate before ultimately coming up short for the series sweep.

CSUB will head out next weekend for a Big West road series at UC Davis.
