FULLERTON, Calif.- Amber Williams (Jr.,
Fontana, Calif., Eitwanda HS) and Kristine Herman (R-Sr., San Ramon, Calif., Florida
Gulf Coast) each scored 24 points as CSU Bakersfield (5-21) defeated Cal State
Fullerton (9-16) 71-63 Thursday night at Titan Gym.
Williams went 10-of-19 from the field while
Herman made seven field goals and was 8-of-9 from the free throw line. CSUB
trailed 32-31 at halftime, but opened the closing frame on a 18-8 run to earn
the lead. The Titans used an 11-3 spurt to close within seven at the final
media timeout of the second half, but the Roadrunners made 7-of-8 free throw
attempts down the stretch to clinch the victory. CSU Bakersfield connected on
18-of-22 attempts from the charity stripe in the game.
Megan Richardson led Fullerton in
scoring with 20 points as the Titans outrebounded the Roadrunners 58-34. CSUB
held Fullerton to 37.1% shooting from the field and forced 22 turnovers.
"Our overall effort was tremendous tonight, especially on the defensive end," said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. "Amber and Madison were able to pressure their point guard which set the tone for us on the defensive end and got them out of their offensive rhythm. Offensively, we were able to exploit the matchup Amber faced. We were able to post Amber up and run a lot of plays through her."
CSUB hosts Northern Arizona Sunday
afternoon at 12 p.m.
