BAKERSFIELD, Calif- The CSUB Roadrunners started the game on a 9-0 run, led by as many as 24 en route to a 69-49 win over La Verne Saturday night at the Icardo Center.
The Roadrunners (4-6) were led by Stephon Carter (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) who scored a season-high 26 points as he surpassed former 'Runner Kebu Stewart for 3rd place on CSUB's all-time scoring list and moved into a second-place tie with Beau Redstone for second all-time with 1,301 points. Carter was 7-11 from the field and a perfect 12-12 from the free-throw line.
For the fourth straight game, at least four Roadrunners scored in double figures as Brandon Barnes (R-Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Lipscomb) added 12 points on 5-10 shooting. It's the fifth straight game that Barnes has scored in double figures. Adam Young (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., Barton CC) recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
The Roadrunners shot 43% from the field while hitting 21-17 from the free throw line as well for a 77% clip. La Verne (1-6) was led by Jake Veith who scored 12 points on 4-10 from the field.
CSUB now begins the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic Monday night at the University of Portland at 7 P.M. CSUB will also play at Colorado State on Wednesday night at 7 P.M. (MST) before heading to Las Vegas Saturday to take on North Florida at 2:30 P.M. and either Georgia Southern or Mississippi Valley on Sunday.
