BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield men's swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 in dual competition with a 160-123 victory over Pacific Saturday.
The Roadrunners won seven of the 14 swimming races and combined with wins in both diving events, CSUB didn't need to score in the final two races of the day (200 IM and 400 free relay). Mitchell Huxhold (So.
Escondido, Calif., San Pasqual HS) paced CSUB as he won the 500 (4:35.84) and the 1000 (9:23.87) freestyles.
Also earning swimming victories were Gabriel Bertrand (So.
Tibro, Sweden, Nykopingssimg Gymnasium) in the 200 free, Alex Daneke (R-Sr., Lodi, Calif., UC Davis), in the 100 back, Mitch Wurm (Sr., Mesa, Ariz., Dobson HS) in the 50 free, Fran Cverle (Jr., Zagreb, Croatia, Limestone College) in the 100 free, and Brett Emery (Fr., Sacramento, Calif., Bella Vista HS) in the 200 breaststroke. Troy Neklason (So., Seattle, Wash., Aviation HS) earned the victories in the 1m and 3m diving events.
"We had a hard week of practice," said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen. "We were very complacent against Seattle and the team responded with hard work during the week and it paid off today."
The Roadrunners host Fresno Pacific next Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
