OREM, Utah - Despite a
20-kill performance from outside hitter Haleigh Haratyk (So., Corona, Calif.,
Centennial HS), the CSU Bakersfield Volleyball team lost to Illinois State 3-0
(25-13, 25-23, 25-17) on Saturday to close out the Utah Valley Wolverine Invitational.
Earlier on Saturday, the
Roadrunners fell to Utah Valley 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-20).
Haratyk totaled 43 kills over
the three matches at the tournament to lead the Roadrunners. Her performance
netted a selection to the all-tournament team.
Lisa Bartsch (So., Wuppertal,
Germany, Augusta State) executed her role as setter in fine fashion with 30
assists and added 10 digs against Illinois State. Libero Lauren Holderman
(R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) recorded 12 digs, while freshman outside
hitter Saelina Dunn (Long Beach, Calif., Wilson HS) chipped in nine digs and
five kills.
Against Utah Valley, Haratyk
once again led the 'Runners with 12 kills. Bartsch tallied 25 assists while
also adding five digs and Holderman scooped up a team-high 10 digs.
CSUB Volleyball first year Head
Coach Jolene Shepardson said the team showed good signs of improvement
throughout the tournament.
"The team is looking forward to
training this week to prepare for this upcoming weekend," Shepardson said.
Up next for the 'Runners (0-3)
will be the Oregon State Active Ankle Challenge Sept. 4-5 in Corvallis. CSUB
will take on Oregon State, Seattle University and Loyola Marymount with the
hopes of ending its 33-match losing streak that dates back to last season.
