BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) has announced its 2011 Women's Water Polo All-Academic Awards. Three CSU Bakersfield athletes have been selected to the ACWPC teams.
Sam Shead (So. Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) earned "Outstanding" honors. Shead's award was for maintaining a GPA between 3.71 and 4.00 in her History major. Shead made the "Superior List" in 2010 as well.
Jessica Browning (So. Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS) was given the "Superior" award. Browning's award was for earning a GPA between 3.41 to 3.70 in her physical education and kinesology major. This is the second consecutive year that Browning has earned ACWPC honors.
Malia Pahoa (Jr. Lake Elsinore, Calif., Temescal Canyon HS) was awarded the "Excellent" honor. Pahoa's award is for earning a GPA between 3.20 and 3.40. Pahoa is an art major. This is the third straight year Pahoa has earned an ACWPC All-Academic award.
"All three of these young ladies represent the true student-athlete as all three were also starters for the majority of the year," said CSU Bakersfield Head Coach Jason Gall. "They successfully balanced the demands of being an athlete at the Division I level along with excelling in their sport. It is no coincidence that Jessica and Malia were also captians last year during the 2011 season."
