Stansfield's goal with 29 seconds remaining in double overtime lifted Sonoma
State past CSUB 7-6 in the WWPA consolation semifinals Saturday afternoon at
Chabot College.
The Roadrunners
trailed 4-2 with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter before mounting a rally.
Trailing 5-4 with six seconds to go in regulation, Jessica Browning (So., Lake Forest, Calif.,
El Toro HS) sent the match to overtime with a goal. The overtime, which is comprised
of two periods, saw Sonoma
take a 6-5 lead on a Malina Lorring goal with two seconds to go in the first
OT.
Amanda Nesbit
(So., Chino Hills, Calif., Chino Hills HS) tied the match for
the third time at the 2:10 mark of the second overtime. After holding CSUB off
on an offensive chance, Sonoma
called timeout, setting up the gamewinner from Stansfield.
Sam Shead (So. Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) had two
goals to lead the Roadrunners. Megan Pezzolla (So. Upland, Calif.,
Bonita HS) made 10 saves in goal.

State Monterey
Bay for seventh place in
the WWPA Tournament at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
