Ricciardi Goes 7-for-8 As CSUB Splits PCSC DH With Santa Clara

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-Amy Ricciardi (Fr., Chino Hills, Calif., Ayala HS) went 7-for-8 as CSUB (14-20) and Santa Clara (6-13) split a Pacific Coast Softball Conference doubleheader Apr. 10 at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.

Ricciardi was 4-for-4 in the opener as the Broncos defeated the Roadrunners 3-0. Santa Clara took the lead on a Jamie Wallis home run in the third and added two runs in the sixth. CSUB stranded 11 runners in the game included leaving hte bases loaded in the fifth. The Roadrunners outhit the Broncos 11-5 with Jazmine Lee (Fr., Garden Grove, Calif., Los Alamitos HS) going 3-for-4 to compliment Ricciardi.

CSUB won a shootout 10-7 in the series finale. Ricciardi put the 'Runners ahead in the first with a grand slam home. SCU's Wallis hit two home runs while Briana Knight smacked her sixth home of the year as the Broncos stampeded to a 6-5 lead heading into the seventh.

The Roadrunners took the lead in the top of the seventh (CSUB served as the visiting team on day two of the series). Ryan Petersen (Sr., Fresno, Calif., Fresno State) singled home Chelsey Bell (Sr., Ridgecrest, Calif., Burroughs HS) to tied the game at six. Laura King's (So., Camarillo, Calif., UNLV) double to left center scored pinch-runner Ashley Nahale (Jr., Fremont, Calif., Ohlone College) for the go-ahead run. The 'Runners used a pair of double steals to score their next two runs. Ricciardi's single to right plated Karissa Veiga (Fr., Hemet, Calif., Hemet HS) for the final CSUB run. The Broncos would score one run in the bottom of the seventh for the final 10-7.

Ricciardi was 3-for-4 in game two. She was also hit by a pitch. The 5-7 second baseman went 10-for-16 with eight RBI's in the series against Santa Clara. King went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Veiga was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

CSUB hosts the team's final non-conference doubleheader of the year Wednesday when UC Santa Barbara comes to town. Action gets underway at 1:30 p.m.
