Roadrunners Race Past Coyotes 90-64; Host WBI Semis Wednesday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSUB (21-11) defeated South Dakota (20-12) 90-64 in the second round of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) Mar. 20 in the Icardo Center.

Six CSUB players scored in double figures, led by Tyonna Outland (Fr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) who posted 19 points off the bench. Britney McGee (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Univ. of Albany) and Amber Williams (So., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS) each scored 15. Nikki Leon (Sr., Canyon Country, Calif., Canyon HS) had 12 while Breana Fields (Sr., Sacramento, Calif., San Jose State) charted 11. Kristine Herman (Jr., San Ramon, Calif., Florida Gulf Coast) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10.

The Roadrunners depth proved to be the difference as CSUB wore down the Coyotes. The Roadrunners' bench outscored their South Dakota counterparts 40-5. CSUB forced 23 turnovers (18 steals) which the 'Runners turned into 23 points. CSUB made 10-of-19 three-pointers as the Roadrunners held the Coyotes to 38.9% shooting for the game (9-of-25 in the second half).

With the victory, the Roadrunners will host Chicago State (24-9) in the semifinals of the WBI Wednesday night at 7 p.m. (PDT). The Cougars, the Great West Conference champion, is the No. 5 seed in the WBI West Bracket. The Cougars have defeated Eastern Illinois (the No. 4 seed) 73-64 and Cleveland State (the No. 1 seed) 68-50 to advance to the WBI semifinals.

The other WBI East Bracket semifinal will feature No. 2 UAB traveling to No. 5 Manhattan on Thursday night. The WBI finals will be played either Mar. 26 or Mar. 27 at a time and a place to be determined.
