CSUB And Utah State Split Softball Doubleheader For Second Day In A Row

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--For the second day in a row CSUB and Utah State split a doubleheader at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.

The Aggies defeated the Roadrunners 3-1 in nine innings to begin the day. Utah State went up 1-0 in the top of the sixth when Ashley Ventura hit a double that scored Kassey Uchida. Freshman Jazmine Lee (Garden Grove, Calif., Los Alamitos HS) smacked her first collegiate home run to tie the score in the bottom of the seventh. A Tatem Day single in the top of the ninth drove in two runs for what proved to be the gamewinner.

Ryane Peterson (Sr., Fresno, Calif., Fresno State) and Lee both went 2-for-4 to pace the Roadrunner offensive attack.

A four-run CSUB outburst in the bottom of the sixth gave CSUB a 4-1 victory in the nightcap. With Utah State in the lead, Amy Ricciardi (Fr., Chino Hills, Calif., Ayala HS) tied the score when she singled home Ashley Nahale (Jr., Fremont, Calif., Ohlone College). Laura King (So., Camarillo, Calif., UNLV) came up next and her single plated Ricciardi and Lee.

A Karissa Veiga (Fr., Hemet, Calif., Hemet HS) single later in the sixth scored King for the final Roadrunner run. Sammy Rodriguez (Jr., Salinas, Calif., Salinas HS) tossed a complete game four-hitter. Rodriguez struck out nine and walked one.

CSUB returns to the diamond on Saturday when the Roadrunners travel to Stockton for a doubleheader at Pacific. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
