IRVINE,
Calif. - The CSUB women's water polo team fell at the hands of the nation's
top-ranked squad in Stanford before dropping its second game of the day to No.
11 San Jose State Feb. 26 at the UC Irvine Tournament.
Stanford
jumped out to an early lead before holding the Roadrunners scoreless for two
consecutive periods in a 19-3 CSUB loss.
Jessica
Browning (So. Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS), Sam Shead (So. Johannesburg,
South Africa, Rand Park HS) and Taylor Hanson (Fr., Modesto, Calif., Johansen
HS) netted the only Roadrunner goals while Megan Pezzolla (So., Upland, Calif.,
Bonita HS) (5) and Chiyeko Morisaki (Fr., Lodi, Calif., Tokay HS) (3) combined
for eight saves.
CSUB
(3-11) kept it close against the Spartans, but couldn't rally late as they fell
11-8.
Mali
Pahoa (Jr., Lake Elsinore, Calif., Temescal Canyon HS) and Amanda Nesbit (So.,
Chino Hills, Calif., Chino Hills HS) led the Roadrunner attack with two goals
apiece, while Browning, Shead, Hanson and Shannon McKenzie also found the back
of the net.
Pezzolla
was credited with eight saves in the
loss.
CSUB
will take on No. 13 Cal State Northridge at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. CSUN downed the
Roadrunners 18-7 in Northridge on Feb. 19.
