PALO ALTO, Calif.--No. 4 Stanford (9-1) defeated CSU Bakersfield (3-12) 90-48 Thursday afternoon at Maples Pavilion.
"Stanford is an outstanding team," said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. "We were outmatched this afternoon. It was one of those games where I wished we had the full squad to work with. With that said, I thought we played with more energy in the second half. We will take the Christmas break and get ready for San Diego."
The Cardinal limited to CSUB to six field goals (in 36 attempts) in the first half and 27.3% (18-of-66) shooting for the game. The Cardinal connected on eight of its first nine field goal attempts, shot 53.8% in the opening frame, and 51.4% (38-of-74) for the game.
Amber Williams (Jr., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS) led CSUB with 14 points. Brooklynn Hinkens (Fr., Lake Tapps, Wash., Auburn-Riverside HS) tied her season high with 13. Joslyn Tinkle paced the Cardinal with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Bonnie Samuelson scored 14 while Erica Payne had 12. Chiney Ogwumike posted 10.
The crowd of 3,339 was the largest crowd in which CSUB women's basketball has played in front of in the since the program moved to Division I.
The Roadrunners are off until Dec. 28 when CSUB takes on the University of San Diego as part of the Maggie Dixon Surf-n-Slam Classic at USD. Game time is 7 p.m.
