SEATTLE - Three Roadrunners
hit double digits in kills as the CSU Bakersfield Volleyball team cruised to a
3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22) over Seattle University on Saturday night.
Sophomore outside hitter
Haleigh Haratyk (Corona, Calif., Centennial HS) led the way with her eighth
double-double of the year in recording a match-high 19 kills and 10 digs.
Haratyk entered the match ranked No. 9 in Division I volleyball in the
country with 4.57 kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Molly O'Hagan
(Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) hit a career-high 12 kills, while outside
hitter Brittney Hopley (Jr., Thornhill, Ontario, Wilfrid Lauer Univ.) slammed
down 11 kills and added six assisted blocks. Middle blocker.
"Credit to our players for executing a well-balanced offense tonight after being one dimensional last night," said CSUB head coach Jolene Shepardson. "We were able to make some adjustments in our defensive game as well. I am pleased we stayed determined tonight when Seattle was applying pressure."
Sophomore setter Lisa Bartsch (Wuppertal, Germany, Augusta State) kept the offense rolling with 49 assists, breaking the season-best mark of 44 she set on Friday night against the Redhawks.
Libero Lauren Holderman
(Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) led a fierce defensive effort with 14
digs and Tika Smith (R-Jr., Sweetwater, Texas, Sweetwater HS) recorded 10 digs.
Chelcy Motes (So., Thatcher, Ariz., Thatcher HS) added assisted six blocks.
CSUB (7-17) also got a boost in the
serving game, where it dropped in 12 aces compared to seven by the Redhawks (5-19).
The Roadrunners rebounded
from a 3-1 loss to Seattle on Friday night to win the season series against the
Redhawks 2-1. CSUB defeated Seattle 3-0 on Sept. 4 at the Oregon Active Ankle
Challenge.
The weekend in Seattle
marked the final road trip of the season for CSUB. The Roadrunners will now
return to Bakersfield where they will prepare for back-to-back matches against
Montana State on Nov. 11 and 12 at the Icardo Center. Both showdowns are slated
for 7 p.m.
