BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield (2-1) travels to UC Riverside (0-3) for a 2 p.m. women's basketball game Saturday in Riverside. This will be the fifth meeting between the Roadrunners and the Highlanders with UC Riverside leading the all-time series 3-1.
The Highlanders are 0-3 after dropping a 64-36 decision Wednesday night at UNLV. TreShont Nottingham is UC Riverside's leading scorer at 13.0 ppg. Jessica Ogunnorin leads the squad in rebounding (7.3).
CSU Bakersfield took a return visit to century city in order to overcome a 11-point first half deficit as the Roadrunners defeated UC Irvine 104-92 in women's basketball action Wednesday night at the Icardo Center. CSUB scored 100 points for the second consecutive game.
The Anteaters led 40-29 with 7:46 remaining in the first half before CSUB battled back to take a 52-51 lead into halftime. UC Irvine opened the second half on a 9-0 spurt and led by eight with 17:29 to go in the game. The teams exchanged the leads and were tied with each other five times in the closing frame. With the score tied at 84, the Roadrunners used a 10-2 run to put the game away.
Tyonna Outland (So., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) went 10-for-15 from the field to score 23 points and lead CSUB. Madison McKenney (So., San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Santa Margarita Catholic HS) set a CSU Bakersfield Division I record for highest field goal percentage in a game as the 5-6 guard was 8-for-8 from the field. McKenney was 6-for-6 from three-point range, which is also a new CSUB Division I school record. McKenney ended the night with 22 points.
Dajy Vines (R-Fr., Oxnard, Calif., Santa Clara HS) scored 16 points, made five steals, and had four assists. Kristine Herman (R-Sr., San Ramon, Calif., Florida Gulf Coast) posted 13 points and six rebounds. Lauren Carter (R-Jr., Moorpark, Calif., Moorpark HS) added 11 for the Roadrunners.
CSUB shot 57.6% from the field (38-of-66) and went 14-of-25 from three-point range (56%). UCI made 40-of-78 field goal attempts, a 51.3% clip. Jacquelyn Marshall came off the bench for the Anteaters to score a game high 31 points. Jazmyne White scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. UC Irvine outrebounded the Roadrunners 52-22, but turned the ball over 23 times, compared to 10 for CSUB.
