The CSU Bakersfield
Volleyball broke in the Icardo Center's new blue floor, the only of its kind in
the country, but Fresno State spoiled the Roadrunners' 2011 home debut with a
3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-20) victory on Wednesday night.
Playing in front of a home
crowd of 471 fans, sophomore outside hitter Haleigh Haratyk (Corona, Calif.,
Centennial HS) led the attack for CSUB, recording a match-high 14 kills.
Haratyk entered the match as ranked No. 12 in Division I with 4.59 kills per
set. Sophomore setter Lisa Bartsch (Wuppertal, Germany, Augusta State) tallied
19 assists for CSUB, while libero Lauren Holderman (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif.,
Bakersfield HS) posted nine digs.
"We have got to get
ourselves back in a rhythm on our service reception so we can execute our
offense more," said CSUB head coach Jolene Shepardson. "We hope to redeem
ourselves on Saturday night against UNLV."
The Roadrunners were unable
to avenge a hard-fought 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 27-25) loss to Fresno State
(9-11) earlier this season on Sept. 22 in Fresno. Leading the way for the
Bulldogs, who totaled 10 service aces in the match, were Brianna Clarke and
Korrin Wild, who recorded 12 and 11 kills respectively.
The Roadrunners (6-14) will
be back at the Icardo Center for another home match against UNLV on Saturday at
5 p.m.
