CSUB Defeats UC San Diego 169-125 To Go To 6-1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSUB defeated UC San Diego 169-125 in a Men's Swimming dual at the Hillman Aquatics Center Saturday afternoon.

The Roadrunners won 11-of-14 swimming events led by Chad McKenzie (Sr., Durban, South Africa, Limestone College) who won three individual races. McKenzie won the 100 breaststroke (:57.67), 200 breaststroke (2:07.99) and the 200 IM (1:56.39). McKenzie swam the second leg of the 400 medley relay that earned first for the Roadrunners.

Jay Jones (Sr., Vancouver, Wash., Pacific Lutheran) earned first place in the 200 butterfly by posting a time of 1:55.68. Jones finished second in the 100 butterfly (:51.66) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.93).

Luka Leskur (Sr., Split, Croatia, Technical School Split)) was first in the 200 backstroke (1:56.02).

Matt Parsonage (Sr., Durban, South Africa, Limestone College) finished first in the 100 butterfly (:51.50).

Peter Bardessono (Jr., Elverta, Calif., American River College) won the 100 backstroke (:51.75) and was second in the 200 backstroke (1:56.63).

Chris Pipes (Jr., Fresno, Calif., Merced College) won the 50 freestyle (:21.43) and the 100 freestyle (:46.42).

Joining McKenzie on the winning the 400 medley relay were Leskur, Jones, and Mark Silvius (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) which posted a time of 3:25.24. Winning the 200 freestyle relay were Parsonage, Pipes, Kevin Miller (So., Granite Bay, Calif., Granite Bay HS), and Bardessono (1:25.06).

"I was overjoyed for our seniors as they competed in their final home meet," said CSUB Head Coach Chris Hansen. "UC San Diego is a great team, to overcome a 32-0 disadvantage (after the diving events) and to improve to 6-1 in duals is a great feat for us. We now look forward to getting ready for Cal and Stanford in two weeks."

The Roadrunners are next in action Feb. 4-5 when CSUB heads to the Bay area for a pair of duals. On Feb. 4, the Roadrunners face Stanford at 2 p.m. On Feb. 5, CSUB takes on Cal at 1 p.m.
