STOCKTON, Calif. — The CSUB men's basketball team entered Wednesday's game at Pacific as one of the nation's top perimeter shooting teams, ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division I three–point shooting percentage at 40.1 percent. But the Roadrunners started 0–for–6 from the floor and never really found their mark as Pacific led wire–to–wire in a 79–46 victory at the Spanos Center.
CSUB (8–8) overall stayed close early, trailing just 14–10 despite a 4–for–15 shooting performance through the first 10 minutes. The 'Runners were just 9–for–30 at the half yet stayed within shouting distance at 34–20.
But a 10–for–30 second half, including a season–low 0–for–9 from beyond the arc, was too much to overcome. Pressing offensively, the transition defense suffered and allowed the normally poor shooting Tigers to convert a season–high 55.4 percent (31–56) from the field.
No Roadrunner reached double figures Wednesday. Junior guard Alex Johnson (Toronto/Vaughan Road Academy) led CSUB with nine points but was just 1–for–5 from three–point range. Allen Huddleston led Pacific (10–7) with 18 points while Sam Willard added a double–double with 15 points and a career–high 18 rebounds.
CSUB will try to bounce back into the win column when it hosts Idaho Saturday (Jan. 15) in Rabobank Arena. Tip–off is at 7 p.m.
