Cebrina Johnson and Aly Brown Commit To Women?s Basketball

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
Santiago High School (Corona, Calif.) guard Cebrina Johnson and Tualatin (Ore.) High School forward Aly Brown have signed letters of intent to play for the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball program for the 2010–11 season, Head Coach Tim La Kose announced Thursday afternoon.

While at Santiago High School, Johnson enjoyed a stellar senior season, leading the Sharks to a 30–4 overall record including a perfect 14–0 mark in the Big VIII League. The Corona, Calif., native averaged 11.1 points, 3.2 assists, 7.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game as Santiago High School advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division IAA championship game. Johnson garnered first–team all–league honors and was named the Big VIII Defensive Player of the Year. She also earned second–team all–section accolades and was a Riverside County All–Star. The Sharks finished the season ranked 13th in the state and won the Best of the West Tournament title.

Brown was a standout post player for Tualatin High School in Oregon. As a junior, she was a first–team Pacific League performer, leading her team to the league title and a sixth place finish in Division 6A. Last season, the Timberwolves went 19–5. Brown was named the Comcast KUIK Athlete of the Week and was a 2010 McDonald's All–American nominee. The Tigard, Ore., native played club basketball for JBS Purple, one of the premier programs in the nation.

“Cebrina and Aly are top players from top programs,” said La Kose. “Cebrina possesses an outstanding defensive presence on the court and Aly was a defensive anchor for her squad who rebounded and showed the ability to score inside and out. Both of these players come from highly successful programs. I believe they are great additions to what could potentially be our best recruiting class in program history.”

Johnson and Brown become the fourth and fifth 2010–11 commitments for the women's basketball program. The Roadrunners are coming off a 16–13 season which resulted in a berth in the Women's Basketball Invitational and made them the first CSUB team sport to make an NCAA Division I postseason tournament. The 'Runners will be NCAA Division I Tournament eligible beginning this season.
