Allen Scores Career High During Pink Zone Game; Roadrunners Fall to Titans

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. —
Cal State Fullerton never trailed Wednesday evening as the Titans captured a 78–61 victory over the CSUB women's basketball team in the Icardo Center. Senior Phynique Allen (San Diego/Eastern Washington) scored a career–high 29 points but the Roadrunners (15–10 overall) could not withstand a 50–combined point effort from the Titans' (12–14 overall) Megan Richardson and Jasmine Scott, who scored 28 and 22, respectively.

Allen was the lone Roadrunner in double figures. Her regular partner in crime, senior Katie Williams (Las Vegas/Reedley College) was held to just one point and fouled out midway through the second half. Williams did tie a game–high with four assists but was 0-for-7 from the floor. Allen tied a pair of career highs with nine field goals and 10 free–throw makes. Junior Tamiko Davis (Sacramento, Calif./San Jose State) had nine points and tied her career–high with four blocks. Freshman Amber Williams had nine points.

Fullerton scored 13 of the game's first 15 points and the lead was never truly tested the rest of the way. Rebounding continued to haunt CSUB as it found itself on the wrong end of a 16 rebound discrepancy. Also, uncharacteristically, the Roadrunners were on the negative end of the turnover battle, committing 19 while forcing just 18. It was the first time this year that CSUB had failed to hold the turnover margin edge in a game. The 'Runners came in as the nation's leader in turnover margin.

For the third season, CSUB wore pink jerseys as part of the WBCA's national Pink Zone campaign in support of breast cancer awareness. The jerseys were auctioned off with proceeds going to the local women's health organization Links for Life and the WBCA's Kay Yow Foundation.

CSUB heads north to take on the Seattle University Redhawks on Saturday, Feb. 20. The Roadrunners beat Seattle, 65–47, back on Jan. 16 in the Icardo Center.
