Pacific Spoils Senior Day For Men's Hoops

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSUB men's basketball played its final home game of the 2009-10 season Saturday afternoon but couldn't muster the energy it displayed in Wednesday's buzzer-beating victory over Cal State Northridge, falling 71-44 to Big West Conference leader the University of the Pacific.

CSUB seniors Trent Blakley (Alta Loma HS) and Santwon Latunde (Landover, Md./Cowley County CC) led the Roadrunners in their final appearances in Rabobank Arena. Blakley scored a team-high 12 points, the 27th time in 28 games he has reached double figures. Latunde added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, marking the 14th time in 24 games he has led the Roadrunners on the glass.

Pacific's Sam Willard led all players with 21 points and nine rebounds. He was the beneficiary of a Tiger offense that was in sync all afternoon. Pacific's 28 field goals came courtesy of 19 assists as the Tiger offense shot 60 percent on the second half and 52 percent for the game.

The Tiger defense, meanwhile, kept CSUB from finding an offensive rhythm all afternoon. The Roadrunners mustered just one assist in the first half and a season-low three in the game, Forced to settle for perimeter jumpers and contested efforts in the paint, the Roadrunners shot just 32 percent in each half.

CSUB returns to the road for its final five games, beginning with a two-game swing through Idaho. The Roadrunners play at Idaho State Monday night before heading down to Boise to take on Boise State Wednesday night.
