STANFORD, Calif. -– CSUB's trio of nationally ranked wrestlers earned wins Friday, but Pac-10 foe Stanford claimed victory in the other seven bouts as the Roadrunners fell 23-14 Friday.
Senior Mitch Monteiro, ranked as high as No. 12 nationally, won by forfeit to open the dual. Stanford's Ryan Magno edged Frank Lomas 7-6 at 125 pounds and Justin Paulsen earned a 15-3 major decision over Justin Durham at 133 pounds to give the Cardinal a 7-6 lead.
No. 12 ranked Elijah Nacita put the Roadrunners back up 11-7 with a 15-0 technical fall over Bret Baumbach at 141 pounds, but Stanford with the next five bouts to take a 24-11 team lead.
Riley Orozco, ranked as high as No. 20, closed the night out with an 8-3 decision over Richard Kessler. The win keeps Orozco perfect in dual action this season, moving to 8-0 in head-to-head competition.
The Roadrunners return to the Icardo Center Saturday for a 7 p.m. start against Pac-10 member UC Davis. The senior trio of Daniel Montanez, Mitch Monteiro and Andrew Stramler will be honored prior to the match.
