RIVERSIDE, Calif.-The CSUB Men's Swimming
Team overcame a 32-point deficit to defeat Cal Baptist 175-118.5 in dual
action at the Lancer Aquatic
Center. The Lancers held the 32-point
advantage as CSUB did enter a diver in either the 1m or 3m events. The Roadrunners' victory improved CSUB's
2010-11 dual record to 5-1 on the season.
Chad McKenzie (Sr., Durban, South Africa,
Westville Boys HS) won the 100 breaststroke after earning a time of :58.84. McKenzie tallied a second place finish in the
200 breaststroke later in the meet (2:11.37).
Luka Leskur (Sr., Split,
Croatia, Technical School Split) led a 1-2 CSUB finish in the 100 backstroke with teammate Garrett
Hubbard (Fr., Granada Hills, Calif., Bishop Alemany). Leskur won the race in a time of :53.27 while
Hubbard charted a time of :54.61. Leskur later won the 200 back as well
(1:56.80). Hubbard posted a third placed
showing in the 200 back (1:59.09) and a sixth in the 200 IM (2:04.23).
Jay Jones (Sr., Vancouver,
Wash., Mountain View HS) was victorius in the 200 butterfly as he posted a time
of 1:57.32. Jones also finished fourth in the 100 butterfly (:53.18) and fifth
in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.32).
Evan Vizcarrua (Fr., Penngrove, Calif.,
Petaluma HS) posted two victories.
Vizcarrua won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:48.52) and the 1000
freestyle in a time of 9:51.91. He later came home in second in the 200
butterfly (1:58.57).
Brian Martinez (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev.,
Arbor View HS) earned the victory in the 200 freestyle (1:44.40). He was third
in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.24).
Chris Pipes (Jr., Fresno, Calif., Merced
College) took home the top honors in two races.
Pipes won the 50 freestyle (:21.81) and doubled up in the 100 free by
recording a time of :47.66.
The Roadrunners won both relay
events. The 200 "A" medley of Leskur,
McKenzie, Matt Parsonage (Sr., Durban, South Africa, Westville Boys HS), and
Pipes posted a time of 1:35.32. The 400
"A" freestyle medley which consisted of Pipes, McKenzie, Parsonage, and Mark
Silvus (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) earned the win with a time of
3:09.98.
"To swim this well in the middle of a hard
training session is a credit to the team," said CSUB Head Coach Chris
Hansen. "We did what we had to do to win
with the weather (the meet was held outside in the rain) and a tough Cal
Baptist team."
CSUB is next in action Jan. 15 when the
Roadrunners host UC-San Diego in the Hillman Aquatics Center at 1 p.m.
